For the remainder of my final year at university and as part of my final year project I have acquired the role of Editor for the more academically based (BA Journalism) Philosophy Magazine. 

Over the next few months I will aim to raise the viewing figures significantly by subbing lecture notes, writing and commissioning articles for the site as well as performing regular SEO checks.

The table above shows that the more upmarket NEW PHILOSOPHER MAGAZINE succeeds in global rank. Updated quarterly in print and more frequently on the web, it demonstrates hot topics and controversial debates accompanied by uncanny illustrations that I think would do well to spruce up the HCJ section of the website.

Although ranking the lowest globally, DIALECTICONLINE is aimed at an undergraduate audience yet does well to stand out individually. As a university based magazine (produced by students from the University of York) it is written in the initial form of a blog with the website also offering an interactive print version for readers to skim through.

WINOL Adventure; A Work In Progress.

For the second semester running, my role as Editor of WINOL's Travel and Adventure Magazine means that over the past few weeks I have been working closely with the Web Editor to make the website more user/navigator friendly (outlined in my Critical Reflection) and making it one of WINOL's most viewed magazines to date (see post). 

As the magazine is very much "picture led", the decision to keep the main slider (above) aims to advertise all the best features in a way that is very valuable in grabbing the audiences attention. When it comes to improvements, we have added less subtle side tabs that lead to the main WINOL news site and to all the latest Adventure features content.

From the main slider, you'll be transported to the written website (we're working on adding video - baby steps) which has undergone a major overhaul. The live Twitter feed has been added and as you can see at the top of the page, there are tabs aimed to make the website more specialised and structured.

Festive Frenzy.

I am currently enjoying the satisfying lull that follows Christmas and New Year, having spent most of my time catching up with family and friends after twelve intense weeks of forceful motivation and hard work.

Granted, my first semester turned out to be both fun and enriching and I now embark on a New Year freshly bathed in knowledge and experience.

That's right. On this day in 2010, I set up my blog.

Mainly with the intention of making a good impression at university, as this time last year I was halfway through drafting my personal statement. 

How times have changed. I am now at a university I love. I am studying a course that I love and I am living with housemates that I, well, love.

We've spent most of the day decorating the house with paper chains as we're all cheapskates when it comes to Christmas.

At 4:32pm it's already getting dark outside and it's turned bitterly cold. I'm cuddled up in bed with freshly washed sheets feeling rather nostalgic. I want to savour these moments as they don't come by often.

Lights. Lights. Lights.

Today was a historic moment, as for the first time I watched the Christmas lights in Winchester illuminate the town square. 

December will soon be upon us and it's hard to believe that another year has passed. This will also be the first anniversary of my blog. I have been blogging for almost a year and what a great year it has been.

After a tough couple of months I am happy to say that Winchester finally feels like home. It's a beautiful place full of beautiful people and honestly I couldn't be happier. 

I spent the evening in the town with my housemates, preparing to see the perfectly placed lights sparkle in the navy sky. It was a bit of an anticlimax but a sea of cheers from the ever-growing crowd soon made this insignificant.

I officially love Winchester.

Miss Independent.

My move into independence has been an uphill struggle.

I officially enrolled as a student @ The University Of Winchester last week, ready to begin a new chapter in my life.

It's a historic place. Once the capital of the country during the days of the Smashing Saxons, home to the great literary Jane Austen who currently rests in Winchester Cathedral, as well as King Alfred, "The Great Defender Of The English Language" during The Middle Ages. For me, that's what made it all the more appealing.

I hope to update my blog regularly, discussing key concepts, as well as engaging in intellectual debates, which will enable me to gain a better understanding of my current course of study.
