Create your own Batgirl outfit. STUDENT STYLE!

Stuck at home all summer? Why not get creative in 10 easy steps.

With reference to http://www.revampfancydress.co.uk/prod-batgirl-hire-costume/861/.

1. Begin with an old plain black top and skirt. Carefully remove any unecessary embellishments.

2. Use tailors chalk on skirt to allow a more accurate cut. Mark a rounded zig-zag pattern approx. 10cm in height from hem.

3. Once cut (preferably with a pair of fabric scissors), fold over approx. 1cm hem. Pin in place and secure with zig-zag stitch using two strand yellow thread.

4. Use ready mixed paint on the skirt's waistband. Layer with thick brush until solid yellow with no black bleeding through. Leave to dry.

5. Mark lightly with a pencil the details on skirt. Use running stitch with a two strand black thread to highlight. Secure with clear or shimmering nail varnish to avoid chipping.

Skirt complete.

6. On a piece of A4 paper, sketch a Bat Symbol (you may have to look this up) and carefully cut out to create a stencil. Place in the top centre of a plain, black top and secure with masking tape.

7. With the ready mixed paint, fill in stencil. Layer until no black bleeding through. You may need a to use a thinner brush for the edges. Once again, secure with clear or shimmering nail varnish to avoid chipping. Leave to dry.

If smudged, just gently wipe away with ordinary face wipe.

8. For cape, simply find an old skirt and cut off the back. Repeat stage two. Neaten edges with 1cm hem. Pin in place and secure with back stitch using a two strand black thread.

9. According to shoulder width, I would recommend putting on top and securing cape to suit frame. Pin in place and gently take off. Using the same black thread, secure cape on to top using back stitch.

10. Lastly, for Batgirl mask, simply pick up a pack of masquerade masks, preferably with pointed edges and proceed to paint with black nail varnish. Leave to dry.

Team with black tights and boots and your outfit is complete!

And at a total cost of approx. £2, this outfit is both cheap and cheerful. Perfect for the student budget.
