WINOL Adventure; A Work In Progress.

For the second semester running, my role as Editor of WINOL's Travel and Adventure Magazine means that over the past few weeks I have been working closely with the Web Editor to make the website more user/navigator friendly (outlined in my Critical Reflection) and making it one of WINOL's most viewed magazines to date (see post).

As the magazine is very much "picture led", the decision to keep the main slider (above) aims to advertise all the best features in a way that is very valuable in grabbing the audiences attention. When it comes to improvements, we have added less subtle side tabs that lead to the main WINOL news site and to all the latest Adventure features content.

From the main slider, you'll be transported to the written website (we're working on adding video - baby steps) which has undergone a major overhaul. The live Twitter feed has been added and as you can see at the top of the page, there are tabs aimed to make the website more specialised and structured.

HOME
Leads you back to the main slider and essentially back to the main WINOL news site.

TRAVEL NEWS
Aimed to be updated on a weekly basis, this section will feature all the latest travel news to ensure the website is constantly up to date.

EVENTS
A list of local events in Hampshire and surrounding areas, to be updated on a regular basis. All competitions held by the Adventure Magazine will be advertised here.

FEATURES
A written round up of sport, travel and tourism features contributed by university students and commissioned by the magazine Editor.

EDITOR'S BLOG
A written piece through the eyes of the Editor, to be uploaded monthly when the new magazine is published. It has recently been discussed that content will be uploaded on a weekly basis to keep the magazine 'fresh'

TEAM
My initial plan was to assemble an adventure team to help produce video packages, as well as upload and sub edit written articles. This is something I need to work on. So far, I have managed to secure a student from the University of Surrey who is studying abroad and who has agreed to contribute a written piece once a fortnight.

Other potential articles include:

  • Indoor Skydiving/Paintball (video package)
  • Reversioned "Great Transport Race" (video package)
  • "Top 5 Travel Apps" (video package)
  • English Heritage Photojournalism
  • "Top 10 Trips From Southampton Airport" (including overnight stay in Alderney, Channel Islands)
  • Around The World; Down Under In New Zealand
  • Top 10 Paris Article
  • Europe Piece (From Graduate)
  • Any Type Of Promotional Images/Footage For Upcoming Events
  • Chase Up Car Reviews And Motoring
